A splash and dash to check out the conditions, rough water but the Lake can handle it.

Smoke from a fire in the background shows next to no wind, and from the shadows maybe a close to midday takeoff. Maybe too hot plus overloaded?
That was a little close !
Looks like every takeoff in the ag business
You young whippersnappers flying out there without doing your homework treat yourself to a high density altitude demonstration. Set up a takeoff and allow yourself only 50% power on that takeoff with full tanks you will soon get a close idea of what your plane will fly like under high density altitude conditions. Use to make my students do it often.
Hope they learned from this lesson.
That was tight. Takes me back to circular takeoffs on flatwater lakes in piston Beavers. How does it go? - “ there are old pilots and bold pilots, but no old bold pilots”….
Nice way to do it. I avoided that road when there, and found similar roads for my ride. Keep the shiny side up.
That dude on the Shadow failed the 1-2 shift . If he would have nailed he would have won
Personally I don't think his engine was running right.
Why do pilots always choose to sit in the rear seat in these types of planes?
Previously answered in other comments
@@YogiCub181 good to know. I figured it was probably answered, I was just trying to avoid having to scroll thru 40 comments 😆
I'm not a pilot. So, I don't know these things but I have to ask... Why do guys who fly these taildraggers with the tandem seats, always fly from the rear seat? Wouldn't it be better to fly from the front seat where visibility would be improved?
It is a weight and balance issue, the placard on the instrument panel (which you can probably not see) says solo from the rear seat only. Also in this type tailwheel airplane it is worse visibility from the front seat. I usually stay in the rear seat when I take a passenger (always tell them they are the pilot, LOL) But I am also a Flight Instructor, so it is the normal seat anyhow in other tailwheel aircraft when giving instruction. If the student wants to really fly a J-3 then I will sit in the front seat as they will have to solo from the rear seat.
Having grown up in Marion, NC, my first airplane flight, age 12, was from Shiflet Field, name for Bill Shiflet whose daughter taught Civics, Marion High School. In over 7 decades, having recently visited Shiflet Field, sad to say, very few changes have occurred relative to other airports in the area.
Thanks always though it was an interesting airport.
Those brakes. ;) Great vid.
Yet another useless video of no times posted. No point in making drag racing videos when no times posted.
Nice
My grandfather flew one of these in 1938-39. Then, in mid September, 1939, his logbook suddenly went blank. Apparently, Herr Adolph's adventure into Poland cause the US Federal government to severely restrict aviation fuel at that point.
coolest plane out there. great vid 👍🏻!
I thought the VFR Corridor required lights, without an electrical are you exempt? I would be nervous with so much traffic, the good news is that you are yellow and slow, easy to see
That would be correct the rule says "lights on if equipped", also no ADS-B required for us, it was many years ago...we just had to make the mandatory call outs back then. There wasn't much traffic when we went through.
Just bought a Styker a month ago. Thanks for posting this!
This is so cool!!!! 😀😀😀
'climb you pig, climb!' just aren't words you want to hear from your pilot.
What year is your 1100XX and do you have any overheating issues?
Excellent film footage.
Did he crash? I couldn't tell from the video.
That made my butt squinch up.
We can't really make a judgment without knowing the facts. But when you see how long his nose wheel was off the ground before he left the ground then you are probably right.
Looks like it could have been a Sling.
Did he make it?
😤😤😤😤
Absolutely FANTASTIC, Tennessee is underrated. I will make sure to make a trip up there. We are in FL. Thanks for this stunning video!! GREAT!!
Sorry the ignorance, what State is this filmed in? Gorgeous. Wanna ride my Chief Vintage there.
To MR.BIG ( the 21 pilot ) I have researched incipient spins , and inverted dive recovery ; I D R , is very easy to recover from : push the stick FORWARD until upside down to level with horizon ( up side down ) ,then HALF ROLL TO RIGRT SIDE UP ( I pull the power back a bit ) ,( I am a commercial licenced pilot , multi - engine ,complicated aircraft & acrobatic endorsed )
👍👍👍👍👍
Excellent film footage and sound.
I call this piloting a wing and not a guided motor. It's much more fun.
I love my J-3! 23years Gary
Yours looks nicer, I have an L-4J also, that's my favorite now
So glad the sixer was built
I was in a -3 G inverted dive with a mig 21 and had better performance than that even with inferior inverted flight tanks....
You were hanging on too tight... vou lost the edge... lol
@@ryancourt8065 Tell Mr. Big to turn in his wings. There are job openings for cargo pilots flying rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong.
I don’t know it looked like a typical heavy/high altitude take off to me.
I'll bet the pucker factor was high and the BRC wouldn't save them from that.
Yeah they were no were near that height to deploy.........
And that my friends is why I fly RC. 5G acceleration to 70mph vertical on my slow setup. No matter what the altitude or temperature. I love flyin, not dyin. To use the vernacular. And I am a cheap bastard, and RC fills the need. But mostly not dyin, I like having fun in the air... spending 200K plus to fly a straight line from pennsultucky to the jersey shore just to grab a burger as the reason to go there does not appeal to me. And I assure you I would die if I tried anything more exciting... I am a "what happens if you do this?" kinda guy. If that worked, "Ok, how about this?". RC only costs money. But it is worth it!
Well.....you're not flying. And everyone is dying. Might as well actually do it.
@@aikimechanic If I could afford to ~actually~ fly I would. Flying box patterns or cross country burger flights in a Cessna/Beechcraft/etc is not flying... to me that is just driving a Chevy Cruze down a straightaway at 55 mph, at much higher cost/risk. But still boring (when was the last time you were excited for a long airline flight?). Not to discount there are high pucker-factors with weather, hardware issues, ignorance.. I am not talking about 'scary', I am talking about 'fun' (for me! different folks, different strokes... I am not generalizing, just saying why I would not find it as interesting). If I could afford a Pitts/Yak/Extra or better yet some "cheap" turbine (an Albatross would be nice), then it is worth the risk! Otherwise I would just die getting bored and abusing my 172.
From flippin it's a funny town
My first job at age 14 in 19xx was as a lineboy where my family had been based well before I entered the picture. We had a lot of Cub and Champs on the line as primary trainers. This is very similar to how I started them when nobody is around with the one exception, I straddled the right main and hold the door post, but I am also well over 6 ft tall. I could nearly reach the throttle and the blade at the same time by the time I was full grown. On weekends at 6:30a when you have to start getting rentals out for 8a lessons, there isn't another soul around to lend a prop. Over the years I grew physically and learned how to prop radials, on up to bigger Jakes with 2B-20's, a lot of W670s with Curtis Reed props. Anyone that would think of touching a flat-6 or a three bladed prop needs their head checked. Otherwise, it can be done very safely for a lifetime. Simply never lose respect.
Very true I use my left foot to chock the right main and also hold the door post to keep from falling into the blades, I'm disabled so have weak knees. Can only do this with a J3 due to door opening and easy access to controls. Back in your day I use to say I would never handprop an airplane. LOL,,, Now those are the only types of aircraft I fly.
what was the time???????
That’s my cousin there
So far the best Indian ride video. Felt like I was on that ride. Thank you. I loved it. The absence of BGM made it more beautiful. My ride of choice would be the Springfield.
super nice. i learned in a j-3 back in the seventies. nice original interior and the plexiglas looks like new. full tank of fuel = lots of fun had to wiggle the key on mine too
Super !
Please explain why this is the "last landing." Is the airport shutdown? Last landing for the Cub before being stored for the winter? What?
Your kidding, we fly year round, just last time at that airport for the flyin. You read too much into titles
Excellent film footage and sound.
I have a Stryker. It's scary fast. That comes in handy when I enter the freeway.
